Training and assessment of knowledge of the workers engaged in activities with the sources and radiation protection officers is one of the most important means to ensure safety of sources and radiation protection of workers and general public.

Several years experience in radiation protection training has provided that the quality training depends of the collaboration between education and training institutions, regulatory authorities and different ministries. It is very important to prepare and approve legal acts on radiation protection training. Following the IAEA and European Union requirements and recommendations legal acts on mandatory training have been prepared and approved.

Training is performed according programs that are approved by the regulatory authority -Radiation Protection Centre. Only the institutions having accreditation and license can implement this training.

Great attention is paid to quality of the lectures. According legislation all persons who want to be a lector in radiation protection have to pass exams at Evaluation Commission under Radiation Protection Centre.

Radiation Protection Centre is paying great attention to practical training of specialists of both RPC and other appropriate administrative institutions and bodies. Over the last few years several regional training events organized by the IAEA were held in Lithuania.
