Information on a possible incident at the Belarusian nuclear power plant

 

     We would like to inform you that in the Belarusian media appeared information about possible incident at the Belarus nuclear power plant. It is said that this incident could be related to a reactor cooling system failure. The Lithuanian State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) requested the responsible Belarusian authorities to provide information on the safety situation at the Belarus nuclear power plant. No official information has been received from the responsible authorities in Belarus at this time.

Radiation Protection Centre continues its cooperation with the Belgian Institute for Radioelements

   In the framework of a bilateral agreement between the Radiation Protection Centre and the Belgian Institute of RadioElements (IRE-Elit) under the Belgian project for enhancing the safety of nuclear facilities in Eastern and Central Europe, Belgian specialists representing IRE-Elit and Federal Atomic Energy Regulatory Agency (FANC) visited the Radiation Protection Centre on June 17–21.

Lithuania’s radon map has been updated

   In 2018 Radiation Protection Center performed indoor radon measurements in 40 residential buildings located in the municipalities of Mažeikiai and Telšiai districts. The Lithuania’s radon map was updated based on the obtained results.
