Each state must protect people and the environment from unreasonable exposure to ionizing radiation and guarantee the safety of sources of ionizing radiation, constantly improve the legal framework regulating radiation protection, focus on public information and education in the radiation protection field. The Radiation Protection Centre (hereinafter – Centre) is regulatory authority for radiation protection, the goal of which is to participate in the formulation and implementation of state policy in the field of radiation protection, except for the implementation of this policy in the practices with radiation sources in the nuclear energy field. 

 

MISSION:

 

To ensure the radiation protection of Lithuanian people and the environment against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation, while creating and implementing state policy in the field of radiation protection.

 

VISION:

 

The highest-level of radiation protection within the state, public and the environment protected from unjustified exposure to ionizing radiation, safe use of sources.


THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

 

  • To carry out statutory functions effectively and efficiently;
  • To implement state policy in the field of radiation protection;
  • To ensure that safety is an overriding priority for all radiation protection issues;
  • To apply graded approach in the field of the state radiation protection regulation and to pay more attention and resources to those areas which are more important with regard to radiation protection;
  • To strengthen safety culture;
  • To cooperate with Lithuanian, European, foreign and international authorities and organizations to ensure radiation protection;
  • To ensure publicity, transparency, reasonableness and comprehensibility of the activities and decisions taken for the interested parties;
  • To comply with the requirements of the EN ISO 9001:2015, EN ISO / IEC 17025:2018, the International Atomic Energy Agency's Safety standard GSR Part 2 and others;
  • continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of quality management system,
  • To manage potential risks and eliminate nonconformities effectively;
  • To ensure secure information management in the Centre;
  • To promote leadership, responsibility and professionalism of employees, their participation ensuring quality of activities;
  • To create conditions for improvement of employee’s qualifications;
  • To create working conditions for employees to enable the proper performance of the assigned functions and the safety and health of workers
  • To use financial resources efficiently.

 

The management of the Radiation Protection Centre undertakes that the quality policy and its objectives will be publicly announced, comprehensible and implemented, the quality management system will be developed and continuously improved, and the system's integrity will be maintained while implementing changes.
